The gun has obviously been re-parkerized, which may make it less appealing to some collectors. Close-up of serial number and United States Property mark. Ithaca - Model 1911A1 serial number 2128752. Very close to the end of the serial number bloc for Ithaca - 1099 pistols beyond. M 1911 A1 USGI/Foreign Military and other Vintage 1911s. Very close to the end of the serial number bloc for Ithaca. If I was 'faking' an Ithaca frame I would certainly be sure to use a serial number that fell within the known range. Perhaps 2660318 was the last known one 'observed'. Many of Clawson's references refer to features on 'observed' guns. I don't know that this serial number would overly concern me. This would be my first USGI 1911 pistol and I am hoping to avoid getting burned if this is not an honest example. Any information that could be provided by knowledgeable M1911 collectors would be sincerely appreciated. It was pointed out to me by members of the CMP forum, that while the serial number falls within the last block of 1945 production pistols, the serial number is higher than the last known Ithaca serial number of 2,660,318. I was planning to pick up the Ithaca in the photos below tomorrow.
